Parish School of Religion
Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. Our Parish School of Religion (PSR) Program is here to support and strengthen that faith received at home. It is recommended that once children enter our program they remain in the program until its completion rather than to take part only in sacramental preparation years. This helps the youth form bonds with classmates and permits a greater exposure to the faith in a communal context.
Register today by using our fillable registration form. Either send the form to pastor@stagnesbr.com or drop it off at the St. Agnes Parish Office.
Ages Accepted: Kindergarten through 12th Grade
When: Tuesdays from 4:00-5:15pm
Cost: No Required Fees; a collection is taken up at Mass in September to cover the costs of our program
Materials:
Books for each grade level are provided by our program free of charge and are returned at the end of the school year. There are no required fees for the program or materials, although a special ‘Religious Education Collection’ is taken up each September and parents are encouraged to donate as able at that time.
Sacraments:
In accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, sacramental preparation requires two years of classes prior to First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion and two years of classes prior to Confirmation. If you have questions about requirements, please contact the Parish office.
First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are typically celebrated when a child is in the 2nd Grade, during the Lent & Easter Seasons.
Confirmation is typically celebrated when a youth is in 11th Grade, during the Easter Season.
Child Protection:
The Diocese of Baton Rouge requires that all parish schools of religion teach the Circle of Grace curriculum to children in grades K-12. The curriculum will be taught at St. Agnes Parish School of Religion in spring 2025 on a date to be announced. Visit https://diobr.org/circle-of-grace to learn more about Circle of Grace.
To strive for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults, the Diocese of Baton Rouge mandates all staff and parish volunteers who work around minors and vulnerable adults to comply with a Code of Ethics and Behavior and to be reporters for any suspected abuse. Find out more through our Diocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection.
