Traditional Latin Mass

What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too.
— Pope Benedict XVI

We are proud to be the home of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. This liturgy full of rich symbolism has ancient roots, dating back to the first centuries of the Church in Rome, and has been for centuries the heart of Western culture. When the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council began to be implemented, many people implored Pope St. Paul VI to ensure the continuation of the traditional rite; among them were numerous non-Catholic philosophers, artists, writers, and clergy. This plea was heard and acknowledged in the so-called “Agatha Christie Indult”, she being a prominent name on the list that caught the pope’s attention. Since then the Church has seen the Ecclesia Dei indult from Pope St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI’s Summorum Pontificum encouraging widespread access to the traditional rite, and Pope Francis’ Traditionis custodes placing drastic restrictions upon the Traditional Latin Mass once more. Through it all, a faithful, diverse, and growing group of Catholics from all over the diocese have found nourishment in the Traditional Mass here at St. Agnes and we would love to have you join us.

High Mass (with music) is offered every Sunday at 9:15am

Low Mass (without music) is offered every Tuesday at 5:30pm.

Additional Traditional Latin Masses for Holy Days of Obligation and other special feasts through the year can be found on our Parish Calendar.
