Social Responsibility

Saint Agnes participates in several social responsibility ministries and they focus primarily on helping the poor and hurting.

Several of the ministries are shown in a spiritual sense through our visitation of the sick in hospitals and bringing the sacraments to them. We also have a strong Pro-Life ministry.  However, we also focus on the temporal issues of the poor, the sick, and the needy in several ways.

St. Agnes works in conjunction with the Missionaries of Charity who use some of our facilities to house and feed women and young children.  They also feed the homeless 5 days a week.

St. Agnes also works in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Food Bank to help supplement people, primarily families who meet their qualifications of the Food Bank and live within our parish boundaries with food once a month, on the first Thursday of the month.  We also help the needy with food on an as need basis during the month as able from donations of food from the people of St. Agnes.  We also prepare and deliver food baskets  at Thanksgiving and Christmas to the more needy and shut-ins that we serve.

St. Agnes also helps those in need with utilities depending on the funds available and the given situation.  The funds used in this ministry comes primarily from parishioners who have designated the funds for this purpose.

St. Agnes tries to address the needs of the people who live in parish as best as we are able, remembering the words of Jesus:  Whatever you do for the least of my people, you do to me.
