The Diocesan Office of Vocations is asking area Catholics to participate in a program of prayer and fasting for the intention of increased vocations to priesthood and religious life. Those willing to participate in the program are asked to pray the rosary daily during Lent. Others, who are interested in doing more, are asked to fast for one day during Lent for this intention.
The intention they are asking parishioners to offer up during their day of fasting is simple: “healthy and holy vocations to the priesthood and religious life from our parishes in the Diocese of Baton Rouge.” The fast can be bread and water all day or one regular meal and two small meals without any snacks between meals. As parishioners are fasting, the rest of our participants will be invited to intercede those fasting through the recitation of the most holy rosary. We believe that these prayers will give all of us the graces we need to persevere in our days of fasting for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life in our area.
